SAQ (Seldom Asked Questions)

WHY A CHRISTMAS ALBUM?

A number of people (two) have asked me this question, and I have several reasons.

1.  It's something I had considered doing year after year, usually around Christmas time, when it's too late.

2.  This year in February, I was fooling around on the keyboard and "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" just materialized. I took it as a sign that my album had begun.

3.  As an artist, it was a way to create a cohesive assignment for myself.

4.  In the jazz tradition, it's great fun to take a popular song and change it up.

5.  I'm tired of hearing the same holiday songs in the supermarket every November and December.

6.  If it's any good, it can make a good gift or stocking-stuffer.

7.  It was time for me to do something new and different.

8.  When I collaborated on a Yuletide tape (many) years ago, it was a hit with our friends, who wanted more the following year.

9.  Christmas albums have the potential to sell year after year. Forever.

(Even if they are in the discount bins.)

10.  Why not?
